With the apparent cold front setting in (SNOW last saturday...what is up with that!?!?) a girl has got to keep busy to stay warm! Recently there have been a lot of things hitting my social calendar, including a trip down to The Slowdown to catch a concert this past saturday. The band featured was actually a reggae band from my homestate of Honolulu Hawaii called Pepper, and it was nice to see (and hear) some familiar tunes when out on the town in Omaha on a saturday night. A friend and I actually got asked by one of the band members to go backstage (insert excited scream here) so after about 20 plus concerts I have attended at The Slowdown, I got on the inside!!! The band members were really nice, and they chatted with us about things we both like about Hawaii and the things we miss most while being away. I have to share with you- one of the most interesting things one of the band members told me was that he missed "tako poke" which is a common hawaiian dish tha ...

You may find it strange that my first post is during mid-term week. I guess I was just excited to write something besides a paper!
I have been studying like crazy, but was able to catch a few fun events this weekend. Kappa Kappa Gamma had their chili feed and Phi Delta Theta had their annual 3v3 soccer tournament. Each were a welcomed break from the snow outside. (Yes. Snow in early October!) Unfortunately, I had to sit outside to catch the Creighton Men's soccer game against Eastern Illinois. However, it was worth it because we won 5-1. That win brought our record to 5-2-2. Now I have to make it through my pile of tests and papers this week! My fall break service trip with my fraternity is the light at the end of the tunnel. West Virginia here I come!

The College of Business at Creighton University is different. At Creighton, we not only teach business . . . we do business. Students get real-world experience outside the classroom, working for and learning at companies of all sizes, from local start-ups to multi-national corporations. Many of these opportunities are right here in Omaha. One such example shows how unique Omaha and Creighton really are.
The Halo Institute was recently featured in the Money section of the Omaha World Herald. The Institute is a non-profit organization that nurtures entrepreneurial talent. The Institute helps people turn their business ideas into reality by takin ...

For those who might be interested, I will take the time to share a little bit of my Creighton story. I’ll share my experiences visiting Creighton and how I decided that Creighton was the place I wanted to spend my college career.
By the fall of my senior year of high school I had narrowed my college search to a short list consisting of 7 schools including Creighton. During October of my senior year my dad and I took a trip to the west coast to look at schools in Washington, O ...

September and August 2009 Recaps---or Attempts to Recap!
So last month was September...apparently! Time flew by as school started the last few weeks of August, September happened, and here were are in October.
August started out with me getting back to campus around the 17th to get settled into my new living arrangement for the year. This year I am a junior and living in the Opus Apartments--which are very nice! As mentioned on my Face page, I am a Campus Health Aide for Student Health (1 of 4) and with the position came the responsibility of having to be on campus over a week before classes even started. This ...

Fall is finally here! It seems like school just started and now it is almost October. So far classes are going really well and I am just getting ready for my first wave of tests. One of the classes that I am really excited about is an independent study course with my advisor. An independent study course is basically a course that you and a professor can customize to a topic that you are interested in. My independent study course is looking at three philosophies (libertarianism, egalitarianism, and communitarianism) and their definition of justice in the context of economic markets. Right now I am reading an anthology of excerpts from different philosophical works including works from Plato, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Thomas More, Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Max Weber, and many more. It ...

My name is Courtney Hanson and I am currently a senior at Creighton University, pursuing a BSBA in Marketing and Entrepreneurship Management. This past summer I had an opportunity to intern at the NIKE inc. world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, as a Brand and Consumer marketing intern for the Emerging Markets. The 10-week internship was made available through an alum, Mr. Jayme Martin, the Vice President and General Manager of the Emerging Markets. The internship provided me real-world marketing experiences and a chance for me to utilize all the knowledge Creighton University has taught me.
I would like to share with you all a commercial NIKE football just recently launched for the new gear called Nike Pro Combat. One of the projects I worked on with a group ...

School is in full swing with classes, tests, and extracurricular activities. It is officially Fall which makes me super happy! The campus is thriving, the leaves are falling, and the squirrels are active- perfect college scene!
I was recently elected president of my residence hall, Swanson. Swanson is our second largest dorm on campus and is home to both freshman and sophomores. Part of my position is organizing the Homecoming events that Swanson will participate in.
Homecoming is next week and the theme this year is W ...

Well a week of travel is on the board, touring Northwest Iowa and my old stomping grounds for Catholic College Week. Saw a lot of great students, and I am hopeful that a few of their applications will find their way across my doorstep.
It's already Thursday and I feel like I am just catching up from all of the road chaos, but it's a happy chaos because I feel like I am back out there with my finger on the pulse. One thing is consistent - many seniors still haven't sent in their application yet! Just goes to show that some things never change! Everybody has been enjoying their first month of school, for many homecoming is right around the corner and it's so easy to get caught up in those senior moments - but don't forget about life ...
